The opinion of yourself should be the only one that matters but facing insecurities due to abuse, neglect, or constant disappointment, leads to self doubt. Having low self-esteem can result in depression, underachieving, or enduring abusive relationships and situations.
It can be difficult to maintain high self-esteem when your boundaries are being violated or when you’re forgoing your needs and wants to please others. The onset of my struggle with low self-esteem originated from a failed three year relationship. But it wasn't until twenty years later that I realized that my insecurities actually developed from being a victim of assault three years prior. Three failed engagements and a failed marriage later, I understood the assignment - ME.
Getting in touch with who you are and the unique traits you bring to the table can increase self-appreciation. Upon recognizing and embracing my value, my perspective on life and the gift of existence shifted. Now, I'm unconcerned by others' opinions but value how God sees me highly. When we discover our value in Him, our self-worth is solid.
Establishing healthy self-esteem is crucial for developing positive self-perceptions and confidence in your abilities. Instead of competing or criticizing yourself, focus on appreciating your unique attributes and embracing your irreplaceable qualities. If you are having a hard time loving the opinion of you, It’s important to engage in activities that promote positive communication, healthy boundaries, nourishing relationships, and self-compassion.
Here are a few actions that you can take to help improve your self-esteem:
1. Combat negative thinking patterns. When negative thoughts arise, consider replacing them with positive ones.
2. Use positive self-talk. Practice reciting positive affirmations to yourself.
3. Practice self-compassion. Forgive yourself for past mistakes and move forward by accepting all parts of yourself.
We all have moments of self-doubt and insecurity. It's vital to be around individuals who uplift and energize you and help you stay motivated to achieve your goals. Self love is a powerful force that can open up the door to feeling free and in alignment with who you are and what you need to live a happy, healthy life.
